‘Learning Through Play’ is our ethos. Abbey Tots also relies heavily on the Siolta and Aistear principles for all activities and programs that are part of our curriculum.

When children are old enough we use Montessori methods to enhance the child’s learning and development while attending Abbey Tots.

The maximum number of children at Abbey Tots is 36

Abbey Tots has five full time staff members and 4 part time staff. All our staff have a childcare qualification along with many years of experience rearing their own children and working within a childcare setting.   Our staff are trained in First Aid, Manual Handling and Food Handling and we continually attend workshops to keep our skills updated.

The ratios of children to adults are as follow:

  • Babies(under 1)   1 Adult to 3 children
  • 1 – 2 year old        1 Adult to 5 children
  • 2 – 3 year old       1 Adult to 6 children
  • 3 – 6 year old       1 Adult to 8 children

For children attending full day care the hours of opening are 7.30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, January to December.

Abbey Tots only closes on Good Friday and for a week at Christmas time.

A nutritious and varied menu is provided to meet the needs of growing children. We can cater to allergies once we are informed of them.

Children attending after school care will be collected from school and walked back to Abbey Tots. During days when schools are closed the hours are 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During School Term we provide a breakfast club and school drop off service at Abbey Tots Creche in Riverston Abbey. The breakfast club runs from 7.30 am and the children are walked to school for arrival at the school for 8.50 am.

We have installed a software package here in Abbey Tots called Little Vista.   It is an on online service that enables you to have access to what your child is doing in crèche in real time. It is our method of recording information on each individual child and communicating with parents.   This information can be accessed through an app on your mobile phone, lap top or PC giving you minute by minute information on meals, naps, nappy changes and activities.   It can also be used as an instant messaging service between you and the staff, making communication easier.

Children who are unwell or have a communicable infection are not allowed attend the facility. If a child falls ill during the day, they will be isolated and contact will be made with the parent or guardian who will be requested to collect the child. If we feel the situation warrants medical attention we will seek medical assistance. Medicines can only be administered with the written permission of the parent/guardian.
